Lovere

One of Italy’s most beautiful villages, at the top of the lake

Lovere looks down the lake from its northern tip, on the Bergamo shore. It belongs to the Borghi più belli d’Italia: the old town climbs from the marina among palazzi, towers and lanes.

What to see

  • Accademia Tadini: the lakeside art gallery, with paintings, sculptures and the family collection.
  • Basilica of Santa Maria in Valvendra: the town’s great Renaissance church.
  • The harbour and lakefront: the most popular stroll in the area.
  • Pisogne: across the water, the church of Santa Maria della Neve frescoed by Romanino.

Good to know

The weekly market is on Saturday mornings. Lovere is reached from Bergamo along the SS42 road, or by boat in the warmer months.
