Sarnico

Liberty villas and motorboats on the Bergamo shore

Sarnico closes the lake to the south, where the River Oglio leaves the Sebino. It is known for the Liberty-style villas designed by Giuseppe Sommaruga and for its boatyards, which made history here with wooden motorboats.

What to see

  • Giuseppe Sommaruga’s villas: such as Villa Faccanoni, a fine example of Italian Art Nouveau.
  • The old village: lanes and small squares behind the lakefront.
  • The lakefront and the bridge over the Oglio: a stroll across to Paratico on the Brescia shore.

Good to know

The weekly market is on Thursday mornings. In the warmer months Navigazione Lago d’Iseo boats also leave from Sarnico.
